Technology has played a significant role in shaping today’s world and economy. It has been an instrument all sectors have used to solve problems and expedite growth and efficiency. Health is an area where technology has played a similar role in driving quality healthcare delivery in various aspects. Ethiopia, one of the fastest-growing economies, has yet to fully utilize technology for health to its nearly
110 million citizens.
The recent COVID-19 outbreak has magnified how essential technological advancement is to the health care system. This outbreak proved that technology can play a major role in aiding national policymakers to gain critical data for decision making. Orbit Health, a health-tech company, played a significant role in consulting the Ethiopian Public Health Institute automate its laboratory workflow thereby leading to more streamlined and accurate information exchange.
This and similar efforts are a testimony to the dire need for empowering ideas that use technology to solve crucial socio-economic problems of our country and more specifically the health sector. Orbit Innovation Hub was founded to reduce the gap in digital health solutions. The Hub will be a nurturing environment for digital solutions that aim to solve the challenges in the healthcare system.
Orbit Innovation Hub will use this opportunity to do its part in technological and healthcare advancement whilst at the same time provide job opportunities to the youth, enhance entrepreneurship, and create an internal workforce pipeline for talented individuals. Overall, Orbit Innovation Hub, through its incubatees, aspires to positively impact the health-tech sector in East Africa.
